Canceled - Get Inspired: Celebrate the History of Voting Rights -

  • Morse Institute Library 14 E Central St Natick, MA USA (map)

In light of recent events at the Natick Public Schools, this event has been CANCELED. Still, we urge those 18 and older to register to vote by the MA deadline October 24th and to vote either in person or by mail in the November 3rd election. Early voting begins October 17th, and Election Day is November 3rd. Remember, your vote is your voice!

Join the Natick Historical Society as we celebrate the right to vote. We're inviting Natick teens to participate in a community read of great works, both written and spoken, on voting rights in U.S. history. We'll hear from John F. Kennedy, Ida B. Wells, Lucy Stone, Willie Velasquez, John Lewis, Deb Haaland, Thomas Jefferson, Barbara Jordan, and many more.

The Read will take place on Sunday, October 11 at 2:00pm on the front steps of the Morse Institute Library in Natick. Each teen will have the opportunity to read a brief excerpt from a speech or document that addresses the history of voting rights. The Read will run about 30 minutes and will be filmed by the local cable station, Natick Pegasus. **All readers will wear masks and practice social distancing. While reading, readers will be placed at a safe distance from other people so masks can be temporarily removed.**

If you are a teen who wants to read, then we want to hear from you! Please send an email to reserve your spot in advance: director@natickhistoricalsociety.org.

**This event is free and open to the public by registration only (email: events@natickhistoricalsociety.org to register). Please wear a mask, practice social distancing, and bring your own chair or blanket. Bathrooms at the Morse Institute Library are NOT open.**
